“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.”
W. H. Auden
The Gaia Hypothesis, named after the Earth goddess in Greek mythology, was developed in the 1960s to explain why the atmosphere of Earth contains high levels of nitrogen and oxygen. It was the brainchild of Dr. James Lovelock, a NASA scientist.
The Gaia hypothesis suggests that the Earth is not a lifeless rock that merely serves as the platform for life – but rather a living organism that has worked for hundreds of millions of years to keep the planet’s natural cycles in balance.
In this article, the third in the series ‘The Subtle Truth About Gaia,’ I will explain that humans are connected and interact with Gaia on both the physical-material level and the subtle levels of energy and consciousness – and that what we see on a planetary scale, including the conditions of the world’s oceans, rivers and lakes in the 21st century, corresponds to the same conditions that we see in the non-physical fields that interpenetrate the physical-material bodies of every human being. But before we look into the correspondence between the oceans and tributaries of Gaia and the reservoirs and channels of consciousness and energy known as resource fields, auras, dantians and meridians that support human life, we need to look at the ‘life force’ itself.
The Life Force
The life force preceded the creation of the multiverse in the same way that water preceded the creation of the Earth. According to Yogapedia, the life force is “one of the two types of energy that are present in all beings. The other type of energy is that of the mind, or consciousness. In the body, the life force is thought to be responsible for maintaining all the physical functions, including life, heat and health.”
However useful this definition may be, it’s incomplete, and it’s based on what the life force does – not what it is. Essentially, the life force is a medium from which everything that exists has emerged. It has existed from everlasting to everlasting and suffers no limitations. Its original form has never changed, which means that it doesn’t evolve and involve through time-space.
The life force includes energy as well as consciousness, perception, awareness and time-space. It combines the three essential elements of existence recorded in the Bhagavad Gita, knowledge, the knower and the field of knowledge.
Although these three elements appear to be separate, they are in fact unified within the life force. This makes the life force the source as well as the essence of everything that has ever existed. Since the life force is the source, it follows that the multiverse – including all consciousness (paramatman and jivamatman), energy (the spirit of chi, chi and jing) and matter in both its subtle and physical forms – existed within the life force before it was manifest.
By now you may be wondering, “Do I really need to know so much about the life force in order to recognize that there’s a correspondence between aquatic ecosystems on Earth and the subtle field?” I can cite several reasons why the answer is a resounding yes.
First: both Gaia and humanity have had their connection to the life force disrupted. The disruption has been caused by non-physical beings, primarily the Avaranas, as well as distorted fields that have intruded into the subtle field surrounding Gaia and humanity’s collective field of energy and consciousness. Yogic adepts foretold that the Avaranas would become more active during the Kali Yuga – the epoch we live in – and warned people to be wary of their influence.
The main purpose or agenda of the Avaranas and their kin, which includes other groups of non-physical and interdimensional beings, has always been to disrupt humanity’s relationship to the life force in order to keep it weak and dependent. Sounds strange, but the damage these beings have done can be seen in the core values they support, many of which have been embraced by patriarchal societies past and present. The core values I’m referring to include the oppression of women, romanticizing the culture of ego, blaming the victim, giving away personal responsibility and victimizing the innocent and the vulnerable.
It can also be observed in the subtle cavities and channels of every human being that serve as reservoirs and pathways for the life force. These cavities have been filled with distorted fields and non-physical beings. The effect these external intrusions have had on humans is threefold. They block the free radiation of the life force. They prevent the life force from being transmuted into useable consciousness, energy and subtle matter – an essential process performed by the organs and systems of the subtle field. And they create a phenomenon known as reversal.
Reversal compels people who have integrated intrusions into their personality – on the levels of soul and spirit – to equate hate with love, love with hate, truth with falsehood and falsehood with truth. The result of this unnatural juxtaposition has been a breakdown in communication and empathy between people with different viewpoints and life experiences. And the creation of a counterfeit sense of community in the twenty-first century that rarely satisfies people on a visceral level.
By undermining communication and empathy, the Avaranas and their kin have introduced self-doubt and fear, deep feelings of loneliness and hopelessness as well as prejudice and intolerance into the field of energy and consciousness which interpenetrates and supports humanity.
The effects of the Avaranas and their kin on Gaia can be seen in the mass extinctions taking place in the Holocene, the pollution of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, a disruption in reproduction that afflicts many species, including human beings, and the introduction of artificial intelligence which has already begun to interfere with the decision making process that influences humanity’s relationship to Gaia, individual decision making and the development of social and spiritual intelligence.
The Web of Life
The final reason why it’s important to know about the life force is because, throughout our existence, we have received vast amounts of this vital substance from living creatures and from Gaia herself. Unfortunately, as the number and diversity of creatures on earth declines and Gaia is ravaged by human activity, the life force available to humans from these two sources has declined. The result: humans have become estranged from Gaia, themselves and the people they love because the medium through which love radiates has been weakened.
The Ocean of Life
The physical-material manifestation of the life force on Earth are its oceans and their tributaries – including lakes, rivers and aquifers. The oceans correspond to the reservoirs of the life force in human beings while rivers, lakes and aquifers correspond to the organs and systems that transmit the life force in the form of consciousness and energy through the subtle field. Without aquatic ecosystems, there would be no life on Earth and no people to wonder about how to restore their relationship to the life force and Gaia. Without reservoirs of the life force as well as organs and systems in the subtle field that distribute it, human life wouldn’t be able to function on either the non-physical or physical-material dimensions.
There’s More to Water than Wetness
The oceans cover nearly 70% of the Earth. And eighty percent of ocean pollution comes from terrestrial sources, most of it as a result of human activity. According to The National Resources Defense Council, an NGO with some 600 scientists, lawyers, and policy advocates, contaminants such as chemicals, nutrients and heavy metals are carried from farms, factories and cities by streams and rivers into our bays and estuaries; from there they travel out to sea.
As well as the oceans, rivers, lakes and aquifers have been polluted and abused in a myriad of ways all over the surface of the earth. According to the most recent surveys on national water quality from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, nearly half of our rivers and streams and more than one-third of our lakes are polluted and unfit for swimming, fishing and drinking.
We’ve also learned from scientists in Germany that water has a memory. They claim that, as water travels, it picks up and stores information about the places it’s been and the substances it has come in contact with. This means that the condition of water molecules can be influenced by the pollution added to them naturally and through human activity. The adverse effect pollution, from different sources, can have on water and its persistence corresponds to the adverse effects the intrusions of distorted fields and non-physical beings can have on human beings and their long-term karmic condition.
Something is Rotten in the Subtle Field
Humans are interdimensional beings with a subtle field that spans a multitude of non-physical dimensions. Research indicates that humans en masse are being deprived of the life force from all of its natural sources. Adding to the problems are blockages in the subtle field. The systems and organs that transmit consciousness and energy through the human field of energy, including auric fields, dantiens, meridians, chakra fields, acupuncture points and minor energy centers scattered throughout the subtle field, etc., have been clogged with distorted fields and non-physical beings. Since pure consciousness and energy with universal qualities are necessary to maintain intimate relationships, psychological well-being and physical health – all three currently suffer. The sorry fact is that the subtle field of most humans no longer functions as designed.
In Conclusion
In the same way that water pollution has jeopardized the health and well-being of our planet and the creatures it sustains, the pollution of the subtle field has jeopardized the health of individuals and the relationships it sustains.
The truth is that unsafe water sickens untold millions and kills more people each year than war and all other forms of violence combined. While the pollution of the subtle field is the foundation of the social ills and core values that devalue human life, Gaia and the creatures she strives to nourish.
