For a person fortunate enough to have an out-of-body experience, one thing becomes abundantly clear: the physical-material universe is an extension of a vast non-physical multiverse inhabited by human beings as well as a host of sentient beings and simpler life forms. This ecology of life interacts and influences everyone alive on Earth today as well as those who have shed their physical-material body in preparation for their next incarnation.
Shedding your physical-material body while you’re alive is quite common; the experience can be triggered by a traumatic experience, deep and prolonged prayer and meditation or a near death experience.
An out-of-body experience can take place when you’re awake or asleep or even when you’ve been pronounced dead.
There is nothing unusual about these events because your soul and spirit and the subtle field that supports them are not confined to the physical-material universe. In fact, on the etheric level you have a subtle body that normally drifts a few centimeters out of alignment with your physical-material body when you’re asleep.
There are several types of out-of-body experiences. Lucid dreaming is one of them; it occurs when you function with awareness and volition within a dream. During a lucid dream, the dreamer becomes aware of their surroundings and maintains control of their functions of mind, including will, desire, resistance and love.
In 2016, a meta-analytic study by David Saunders and colleagues on 34 lucid dreaming studies, taken from a period of 50 years, demonstrated that 55% of a pooled sample of 24,282 people claimed to have experienced lucid dreams at least once or more in their lifetime.
Astral travel, or soul travel, is another out-of-body experience that many people have had. Unlike lucid dreaming, it can occur spontaneously when a person is aware or during deep meditation and prolonged prayer. In one well-known incident, a clairvoyant in New York City spontaneously left his body during a session.
In this case, a client wanted to know how her son would fare in an upcoming court case. The Clairvoyant, upon hearing the child’s name, immediately felt a strong push that knocked him out of his body. Almost immediately, he found himself in New Jersey, on a street that was wet from an earlier downpour. A taxi pulled up across the street. It contained one passenger, who he recognized intuitively was his client’s son. The young man had a pistol in his hand and was waving it around menacingly. The taxi driver used his cell phone to call the police who arrived a few minutes later and disarmed the passenger without further incident. As soon as the young man was in police custody, the psychic returned to his body.
The reaction of the psychic was illuminating. He explained that he didn’t simply see the events that took place in New Jersey; he participated in them. He explained that he could feel the moisture and temperature of the air and could empathize with the thoughts and feelings of both the driver and his young passenger.
Many ancient cultures and spiritual schools refer to astral travel or soul travel. In Corinthians two, Paul declared, I know a man “… who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body, I do not know – God knows.”
A near death experience is considered by many the most profound type of out-of-body experience. These well-documented events imply that a human’s soul and spirit can function independently of their physical-material counterpart. They also imply that the soul and spirit function within their respective dimensional fields when a person is awake, asleep and even when they’re dead.
In this addition of Inner Awareness Newsletter, you will learn to prepare yourself for the inevitable moment when you die, and your dominant fields of activity are confined to the subtle dimensions of consciousness and energy.
Death, the Ultimate Out-of-Body Experience
To understand death, which is nothing more than an extended out-of-body experience, it’s essential to recognize that the field of death exist within you. It’s one of several integrated fields that influence you when you’re awake, asleep and having an out-of-body experience. This means that the field of death is not something that you join when you die; it’s something you participate in even when you’re alive.
The experience of orgasm provides us with an example of how this works. An orgasm might seem like the ultimate affirmation of life, but it’s also an affirmation of death. That’s because to achieve a healthy orgasm, a person must surrender themselves completely to the energy that radiates through the organs of their subtle energy field. Surrender this complete is only possible when the person, on the verge of orgasm, shifts their awareness out of the field of life into the field of death.
The part played by the field of death was recognized by French researchers centuries ago. They referred to orgasm as ‘The little death.’
To recognize death for what it is and to make the transition from life into death a joyful one, you must first let go of your fear of death. Then you must enhance the flow of life-affirming consciousness, energy and subtle matter through your field of death.
Krishna recognized the importance of changing your relationship to death. In the Bhagavad Gita, he declared, “Death is certain for one who has been born, and rebirth is inevitable for one who has died. Therefore, you should not lament over the inevitable.” BG 2.27:
The Bṛihadāraṇyaka Upanishad echos this view when it states, “The soul is not born, nor does it die; it did not spring from something, and nothing sprang from it. It is unborn, eternal, immortal, and ageless. It is not destroyed when the body is destroyed.”
The Fearless Mudra
To overcome the fear of death, you can use the Fearless Mudra. It’s designed to overcome patterns of fear that block the flow of life-affirming energy through your subtle field.
By using the Fearless Mudra to banish fear, you will liberate vast amounts of prana, chi and jing in your death field that have been blocked during your present life and past incarnations. A healthy flow of energy in your death field will enhance your ability to make a joyful transition from life to death and back to life when you’re ready to incarnate once again.
To perform the Fearless Mudra, find a comfortable position with your back straight. Then bring your tongue to your top palate and slide it back until the hard palette curls upwards and softens. Once your tongue is in position, bring the soles of your feet together until they’re touching. The index fingers are brought together next so that the tips touch one another. After the tips of your index fingers are touching, bring the tips of your thumbs and the tips of your middle fingers together. Keep the tips of your index fingers above the tips of your thumbs and middle fingers. Then bring the tips of your ring fingers together and the tips of the pinkies together
Close your eyes and hold the mudra for ten minutes. Then release your fingers and bring your tongue and feet back to their normal positions.
Energizing Your Field of Death
To energize your field of death and purge it of distorted fields and the influence of non-physical life-forms, you can use the following technique: it’s called the Field of Death Meditation.
To begin the meditation, find a comfortable sitting position with your back straight. Breathe deeply through your nose for two to three minutes. Then assert, “It’s my intent to center myself in my field of death.” Once you’re centered, assert, “It’s my intent to turn my organs of perception inward on the level of my field of death.” Take two to three minutes to enjoy the shift. Then assert, “It’s my intent to fill my field of death with life-affirming energy.” Remain centered in the field of death for ten minutes. Then release your mental attention and assert, “It’s my intent to return to normal consciousness.” Continue by counting from one to five. When you reach the number five, open your eyes, and bring yourself out of the meditation.
