From ancient texts and recently conducted studies, we know that karma is more than the principle which declares that you will reap what you sow. It’s an active substance which can accumulate in the human energy field and disrupt intimate relationship. In fact, it’s this active substance which attracts people to objects, energy fields and human beings and binds them to whatever or whoever they are attracted. By its power to attract and cause attachment, karma can influence health, well-being and a person’s ability to engage in intimate relationship with a partner, with themselves and with universal consciousness.
What is Karmic Baggage?
Karmic baggage is the total amount of karmic energy that has accumulated in a human being’s energy field. What defines karmic baggage is its individual qualities, which include size, shape, density, polarity, will as well as the inauthentic feelings, emotions, attitudes and beliefs which counterfeit the functions of the authentic mind.
A human being without the burden of karmic baggage could be compared to a mirror without blemish. In such a mirror, a human being’s authentic mind would be reflected clearly without distortion – and the awareness, emotions, feelings, sensations and desire that support intimate relationship would be expressed spontaneously. Karmic baggage corresponds to any form of dirt and-or debris which can accumulate on the mirror and obscure and-or distort the image being reflected.
When partners within relationship have become burdened by enough karmic baggage, they will become blocked. Blockages caused in this way can force partners in relationship to contract. Once partners have contracted, their ability to experience pleasure will be reduced. Even a small reduction in a person’s ability to give and receive pleasure will lead to the disruption of human love, intimacy and joy. Without the ability to share pleasure, love, intimacy and joy freely, partners can find themselves estranged and polarized from one another. At a certain critical point, which will be different for each couple, trust will be shattered – and whatever shared empathy remains will be smothered under the weight of the partners’ collective karmic baggage.
To a human being without sufficient understanding, karmic baggage can appear to have both positive and negative effects. But it’s important to note that even karmic baggage which appears positive will still cause contraction and prevent partners from experiencing pleasure and sharing intimacy. In the end, it’s karmic baggage which causes contraction and which disrupts intimate relationship, and it’s karmic baggage which must be overcome in order to restore intimacy and relationship.
Individual Mind & Ego
Humans have two minds. An authentic mind, which is their authentic vehicle of awareness, perception and self-expression, and an individual mind and ego, which counterfeits these functions. Activities motivated by the individual mind and ego create patterns which cause attachment and introduce fields of energy with individual qualities into the subtle field. Since the primary concern of the individual mind and ego is fulfilling its own desires and needs, once a human being has accumulated an inordinate amount of karmic baggage in their subtle field, they will invariably fall prey to a world view that stresses ownership, control and manipulation over the experience of pleasure, love, intimacy and joy. Activities which emerge from the individual mind and ego and are antagonistic to pleasure, love, intimacy and joy include thinking, worrying, judging, comparing and activities that spring out of the desire and aversion for specific things.
An inordinate accumulation of karmic baggage will not only inhibit a human being’s access to pleasure, love, intimacy and joy; it will make it increasingly difficult for them to turn the organs of perception inward.
On the level of mind, an inordinate accumulation of karmic baggage will disrupt concentration, memory and the normal balance of inductive and deductive reasoning. It will also trap a person in the internal dialogue (the incessant chatter of the individual mind and ego) and make them reactive to thoughts, ideas and beliefs which interact with their personal field.
An inordinate accumulation of karmic baggage on the levels of emotions and feelings will restrict a person’s ability to express their authentic emotions and-or feelings or empathize with other people.
Human beings have evolved the ability to express their authentic emotions by crying, yelling, screaming, etc. as well as expressing them through their eyes and facial musculature. When an emotion is expressed spontaneously and is resolved, there will be a feeling of satisfaction which will indicate that the pent-up emotional energy has been purged and a healthy flow of energy has resumed.
Feelings vibrate within a lower spectrum of frequencies than emotions. When feelings become restricted, a person will find themselves locked outside ‘themselves’, with a corresponding loss of sensitivity, Self-awareness and intuitive insight.
A loss of intuitive insight, which is often experienced as a gut feeling, can have dire consequence for intimate relationship since it can make it increasingly difficult to distinguish the difference between what is authentic – and emerges from the authentic mind – and what is inauthentic – and emerges from the individual mind and ego.
Sensations and physical pleasure emerge from the physical level. When the flow of energy through the physical body has been disrupted by karmic baggage, a person’s experience of physical pleasure will be restricted. This can result in sexual dysfunction, which includes impotence and premature ejaculation in men and orgasmic dysfunction in women. In fact, almost any type of aversion to normal sexual stimulation and pleasure can be traced back to the same root cause, a disruption in the flow of energy on the physical level.
